Wine-flavored Tramadol addiction
Ryan Smith, December 8th, 2008
Have you ever taken Tramadol? Let me tell you how it goes. You start with a low dose, which I did of course and then you wake up loving it before you know it. I am 34 years old and I have tried a wide variety of opiate drugs up to this day. Why? Because I like the euphoric feeling they give me and Tramadol certainly has its perks.
I decided to try Tramadol after reading about it online and discovered that it had similar effects with other opiate drugs. The next step was to search for affordable prescriptions and order them as fast as possible. When the pills arrived, I took 2 pills and just chilled with a glass of wine. I felt completely relaxed and after half an hour or so took some more. The euphoric mood installed and there was something I could not even begin to describe. It was like I had no worry in the world, a strange feeling of well-being and a completely loosening experience.
That was my first time with Tramadol. The next day I woke up with a smashing headache and was extremely nauseous but I was used to such sensations. The aftermath from Tramadol was similar to the one caused by codeine, hydrocodone and other narcotic drugs. I started the day with 4 pills of Tramadol and entered again the euphoric mood I had fallen in love with. A bottle of wine enhanced my mood even more and the day seemed to be more than perfect. Well, I did not add throwing up to that perfect day but the combination of Tramadol and wine finally led to such events.
A nap was all I needed to recuperate but there was only one problem: I could not sleep, feeling restless and almost annoyed with the chest pains I started to feel. I said to myself that maybe it's time I took a break from Tramadol but continued to drink some of the wine hoping it will make me feel better. The headaches kept on coming, stronger and stronger, until I felt like small mice were chewing on my brain. Half-drunk, I wondered I should call 911 and ask for emergency medical assistance. Maybe they will think I am in the mood for jokes and won't come. Still, I called.
'Hello, what is the cause of your emergency, please'? I answered that I took opiate analgesic medication, meaning Tramadol (Ultram) and had some wine to go along with it. They sent an ambulance to my house and they took me urgently to the hospital. I went into the emergency wing and the doctors were extremely reserved as they did not know how my body is going to recover from all the Tramadol I had taken. The wine did not do any good and it was quite obvious.
I stood in the hospital for a couple of weeks and then was recommended to enter rehab. Was it worth it? Yes as it cured me. Step by step I discovered the genuine benefits of being healthy and not dependent on pain-relieving medication. While I was in there, I met a lot of people who shared the same problems as me and I finally understood that it was time for a major change in my life. I did not want to be euphoric any more but I was really interested in living and discovering the beauty of life.
As I speak, three months have passed since I was released and I still attend the meetings. We talk about our experiences and Tramadol is a name often encountered. You would not believe how many people take it for recreational purposes and end up being addicted to it. It's just sad to destroy your life that way and I strongly advise against anyone taking Tramadol just for fun. Listen to someone who has been there and done that; it is better to learn from other's experience in such situations!
